Last Thursday was a grimm day.
Yours truly was returning from a small trip with a friend from an NGO to Xai-Xai's Provincial Health department when I received a text message saying "beware of the rockets"...
Apparently, the army's military armoury started to explode. We could listen to the bombs, grenades, bullets and other military explosive paraphernalia on the background as we spoke to anyone who could tell us the right way to go around the exploding bunker so that we could enter the city. Children were guided through dark dirt roads. People evaded their homes leaving everything behind. Somehow me and my friend were the only ones going the other way, and with no headlights... So there I was, with my head sticking out of the window telling him "go left, go right, slow down, speed up, watch the people...".
Amazingly, we came through.
So how does an army storeroom in the capital blow up after two other blew up too? Officials say it was a short-circuit, but anonymous sources say it was a cover-up for an arms deal that's been going on since the civil war. Funny it blew up a few days before a third party was coming to Mozambique and count the ammunitions. They would probably find that there weren't enough... For safekeepings, the government decided to just blow it up! What about the people? What about the thriving area? I'm wondering where it's all going to....
